Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphone Review

A lot of users are wondering which type of headphones they should choose, a wired headphone or one that can work wirelessly. That’s also a question that I get asked daily by users.

I must admit that this question is very hard to answer. It depends on what you really need when looking for a headphone. Based on that, you can choose a wireless headphone or a headphone with wire.

Each headphone has its advantage and drawbacks. For example, a wired headphone gives you a good signal, but a wireless headphone is more flexible.

In fact, I don’t really care about the signal of the headphone (compared between wired & wireless headphone) because there’s not much difference. Maybe in a few years ago, it was actually a concern. But now, wireless headphones have been improved so much to deliver good sounds, without interrupting.

In my case, when I select a new middle-end headphone, my priority is to choose a wireless headphone. This is because I use this headphone on a daily basis, at home, on the go, or when I work out. You can’t discern the difference between wired & wireless headphones when listening to the same sound.

Currently, I’m using a Bose SoundSport wireless headphone for exercising, as well as listening to music when walking to the office.

Like the wired SoundSport, this new wireless headphone has an open design. This means that you don’t need to jam the earbud into your ear to seal off your ear canal completely, like noise cancelling headphones.

Therefore, the SoundSport isn’t a perfect wireless headphone for noisy environments. If you are looking for a noise-isolating headphone, Bose QuietControl 30 is an excellent choice as it has an active noise-canceling feature. However, if you are running or driving your bicycle and want to detect cars coming, this open design will help you to more easily hear the sounds.

What makes this SoundSport wireless headphone my favorite? Well, this wireless headphone is very comfortable to wear, its sound is good, and it’s priced at $150, an acceptable price.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphone: Build and Design

Unlike the wired SoundSports headphone, this one is huge and bulky. The reason is that it’s a wireless headphone, so it needs a place to keep Bluetooth components and the battery.

Although it’s bulky and you don’t to put it deeply into your ear like noise-isolating headphones, this wireless headphone won’t fall out even you are running.

There is a button on the top of the right earbud to power the headphone on and pair it with your smartphone. In the control module, there is an in-line microphone and remote for playback controls, such as adjusting volume, skipping songs, or taking and making calls. The good point of this control module is that it won’t go flying around when running.

Made of hard plastic, both headphone and control module are considering as sweat- and water-resistant. However, there are some reports from users telling that they have problems with sweat damaging this Bose SoundSport wireless headphone.

According to the information from Bose, they have already started working to fix this issue and will release a new version of this wireless headphone soon. In the meantime, if this problem has damaged your SoundSport wireless headphone, Bose will replace it for you, free of charge. However, you don’t need to worry about it at all. I have tested this headphone for weeks and used it for months, and it still operates perfectly.

Bose SoundSport Wireless: Connection and Battery Life

Connected to your smartphone through Bluetooth (or NFC if supported, a tap-to-pair technology), the average range is about 30-feet. Since I purchased this wireless headphone, I haven’t noticed any issues with the connection or signal at all.

Bose declares that the battery life of the SoundSport wireless headphone will give you about six hours of playing music. This time frame is fairly decent for a small wireless headphone, but not great overall, compared to other headphones. There is also an accessory case for charging on the go. This accessory costs $50 and provides three full charges for your Bose SoundSport wireless headphone.

You can download Bose Connect to upgrade the firmware, manage your pairing list, or adjust auto power off settings. It’s available for both Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS. Visit the following links to download.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphone: Sound Quality

If you are looking for a headphone with accurate sounds, then you shouldn’t consider Bluetooth sports headphones as an option. Although Bose gave some extra attention for the overall sounds, I don’t think that’s enough.

Conclusion

Overall, the Bose SoundSport wireless headphone is a good pair of sports headphones. Its sounds are better than most other fitness headphones. Another good point is that it will stay in your ears when running, or even jumping.
